Installing PRIMA Bot

PRIMA Bot

You install PRIMA Bot from Terminal on the Mac, in six steps. Check every item on Before You Start first.

The PRIMA Bot repository on GitHub is private. Ask for access through Getting Help and include your GitHub username, then accept the invitation that arrives by email.

  1. In Terminal, move to the folder that will hold the files, such as your Developer folder, with cd followed by the folder’s path.
  2. Run the command below, which copies the repository to your Mac.
Terminal window
git clone https://github.com/larrygmaguire-hash/prima-bot-remote-server
  1. Run cd prima-bot-remote-server to move into the new folder. It holds install.sh, uninstall.sh, config.example and the bin and launchd folders.

The first time Claude Code connects a folder to Remote Control, it asks you to confirm. The background service has no window, so it cannot answer for you, and you answer once by hand.

  1. In Terminal, move to your workspace folder with cd followed by the folder’s path.
  2. Run the command below, which starts Remote Control in that folder.
Terminal window
claude remote-control --name "My Workspace"
  1. If Claude Code asks whether to trust the folder, type y and press Return.
  2. When it asks Enable Remote Control? (y/n), type y and press Return to switch the feature on.
  3. When a link that starts with https://claude.ai appears, press Control and C to stop it.

Claude Code saves both answers, so the background service starts without asking again.

Notifications tell you when a session has finished or needs your answer.

  1. Run claude in your workspace folder, which opens Claude Code on the Mac.
  2. Type /config and press Return to open the list of Claude Code settings.
  3. Turn on Push when Claude decides and Push when actions required.
  4. Once both settings are on, type /exit and press Return to close Claude Code.

Go back to the PRIMA Bot folder in Terminal and run the installer.

Terminal window
./install.sh

The installer copies the launcher to ~/.local/bin, writes a starter settings file and writes the LaunchAgent. It starts nothing yet.

Step 5, Set Your Workspace and Start PRIMA Bot

Section titled “Step 5, Set Your Workspace and Start PRIMA Bot”
  1. Open the settings file in TextEdit with the command below.
Terminal window
open -e ~/.config/prima-bot-remote-server/config
  1. Set WORKSPACE_DIR to the full path of your workspace folder, inside the quotation marks.
  2. Set SESSION_NAME to the name you want to see in the Claude app, such as My Workspace.
  3. Save the file, then close TextEdit so the installer can read it.
  4. Load and start the background service by running the command below in the PRIMA Bot folder.
Terminal window
./install.sh --load

Run screen -ls to check it, and look for a line that contains prima-bot, which means PRIMA Bot is running. Configuration explains every setting in the file.

  1. Quit Terminal and every other app on the Mac, and leave the Mac switched on.
  2. Open the Claude app on your phone, open the menu and choose Code.
  3. Tap your Mac in the list, then tap New session.
  4. Ask for something that uses the folder, such as “Make a file called test.txt with today’s date in it.”
  5. Back at the Mac, open your workspace folder in Finder and check that the file is there.

The setup is complete when the file appears.

Item Location
Launcher ~/.local/bin/prima-bot-remote-server
Settings ~/.config/prima-bot-remote-server/config
LaunchAgent ~/Library/LaunchAgents/com.<your-user-name>.prima-bot-remote-server.plist
Log ~/Library/Logs/prima-bot-remote-server/launchd.log

Running ./install.sh again replaces the launcher and the LaunchAgent and keeps your settings file.

  • Power cuts. In System Settings, look under Energy for the option to start up after a power failure, and switch it on.
  • FileVault. When FileVault disk encryption is on, the Mac waits at the password screen after a restart. PRIMA Bot starts only after you log in, so plan to log in once after any restart.
  • Internet. Remote Control stops after about ten minutes without a connection. macOS starts PRIMA Bot again a minute later, and it reconnects when the internet returns.
