document-processor

An agent is a helper Claude hands a piece of work to. It runs in its own context window and reports back. The raw material never fills up your main conversation. The document-processor agent is for batch work, where the same operation applies to many files.

When Claude Uses It

Claude delegates to this agent when several documents need the same treatment. It also delegates when bulk extraction would clutter the conversation, or when many files need consistent formatting. You can also ask for it by name.

Use the document-processor agent to summarise every proposal in
Domains/06 Sales/06.3 Proposals/ and put the results in one table.

How It Works

1. The agent confirms which documents to process, what to do with each, the output format and where to save results.
2. It finds the target files and reports how many it found before it starts.
3. It reads each document in turn, applies the operation and notes any problems.
4. It compiles the results as one file per document, a single report or a summary with links.
5. It reports how many documents it processed and how many failed. It also gives the output location and the main findings.

If one document fails, the agent logs the file and the reason and moves on to the next. The report lists the problem under “Issues Encountered”, and one failure does not stop the batch.

Caution

The agent has file-writing tools. It leaves your original files unchanged unless you tell it to modify them. If you ask it to change files in place, commit your work with /sync first so you can go back.

Output Formats

A batch summary report opens with the operation, the number of documents and the date. A table follows with each document’s status, output and notes, then an overall summary and any issues.

An extraction report opens with the number of source documents and the date. Its table has one row per document and one column per field you asked for, and notes on patterns or anomalies follow.
