Your First Day
This page walks through a first working day in a new workspace, after you have run /setup. The example uses an invented business, Example Consulting, which starts a project called Spring Workshop.
Start the Day With /day
Section titled “Start the Day With /day”- Open VS Code.
- Open your workspace folder.
- In the Claude Code panel, type
/dayand send it.
Claude pulls the latest version of the workspace from your remote repository, reads the project register and your recent git activity, and checks your calendar if you connected one in /setup. It then shows a briefing with your active projects, recent activity, upcoming events and suggested priorities, and ends by asking what you want to focus on.
Each project in the briefing carries a traffic light.
| Indicator | Meaning |
|---|---|
| 🟢 Active | Worked on within the last 7 days |
| 🟡 Stale | Not worked on for 7 to 27 days |
| 🔴 Needs attention | Not worked on for 28 days or more, or overdue |
| 🟠 Paused | On hold on purpose |
| ⚪ Archived | Completed or closed |
/day describes the briefing in full.
Clear Out the Sample Projects
Section titled “Clear Out the Sample Projects”A new workspace contains three sample projects, P001 Website Redesign, P002 Q2 Marketing Campaign and P003 Staff Training Programme, so your first briefing is not empty. When you no longer need them, archive them from the briefing.
- After
/dayfinishes, typearchive P001and send it. - Repeat for P002 and P003.
Claude backs up the project register, marks each project as archived and checks the register is still valid. Nothing is deleted. The three sample client folders in Domains/01 Clients/ are ordinary folders, and you can delete them or reuse them for real clients.
Create Your First Project
Section titled “Create Your First Project”Type /newproject followed by a name.
/newproject Spring WorkshopClaude asks five questions about the goal, the audience, what done looks like, the timeline and what already exists. It then asks for a category and the domain the project belongs to, such as 15 Education & Training. It drafts a short requirements document for you to approve, creates the project folder, and registers the next free project ID in the project register. In a new workspace that is P004, because the sample projects keep their IDs even when archived.
The result is a folder such as Domains/15 Education & Training/P004 Spring Workshop/ containing a CLAUDE.md, an AGENTS.md and a PRD.md. /newproject covers every option, and Domains explains how to choose one.
For work with a client, run /newclient first. It creates a client folder under Domains/01 Clients/ and then offers to create a project for that client. See /newclient.
Work With Claude
Section titled “Work With Claude”Ask for what you need in plain language in the Claude Code panel. Claude can read and edit any file in the workspace, and it reads your company files before it drafts anything for you.
- To draft a document, describe it, for example “Draft a one-page brief for the Spring Workshop”.
- To work with a file in your cloud storage, give Claude its full path.
- To summarise a meeting, paste or point to the notes and ask for a summary.
The seven built-in skills cover documents, PDFs, meeting notes, workflows, client setup, status reports and building your own skills. Claude chooses the right skill from what you ask, and the Skills section has a page for each one.
Save Progress With /save
Section titled “Save Progress With /save”A long session can reach the limit of what Claude holds in one conversation. Run /save before that happens, before you switch to a different task, and before anything complicated.
/saveClaude writes a checkpoint of what you did, what you decided and what is unfinished to a file in ~/Documents/Agent Outputs/, in a folder named after the project. It then updates the project records and gives you a reference to resume from.
**Session saved — 15:40**
Topics: Spring Workshop brief draftedProjects updated: P004
Use `/resume P004` to continue in a new session. Add HH:MM for additional context. In a new session, type the /resume command it gave you to pick up where you stopped. See /save and /resume.
Close the Day With /night
Section titled “Close the Day With /night”Type /night at the end of the session. Claude gathers what you did, matches it to your projects, and shows a summary for you to review.
- Choose Approve to record the updates, commit your work and push it.
- Choose Revise to correct the summary before it is recorded.
- Choose Skip to commit and push without changing the project records.
For a quick commit and push at any point without the summary, use /sync. See /night and /sync.
The Next Morning
Section titled “The Next Morning”Run /day again. The briefing now shows Spring Workshop as active, with the work you recorded the day before. If you need to see every project at once, run /status.
